The SEDRIS Data Representation Model
APPENDIX B - Constraints
Elaboration Of Classification Data

Definition

For a <Property Value> component of a <Classification Data>, <Environmental Domain Summary>, <Reference Surface>, or <Table Property Description>, the meaning field of the <Property Value> shall specify an EAC that is designated as "classification-applicable".

Rationale

Some ECCs require other elaboration by EACs, so each class containing an EDCS_Classification_Code field has optional <Property Value> components, which are provided so that such elaboration can be expressed.

These <Property Value> components cannot be attached to the aggregate of the <Classification Data>, because

  1. A <Property Value> applies directly to the object of which it is a component, so that a <Property Value> of the <Classification Data>'s aggregate applies directly to the aggregate, rather than the <Classification Data> itself.

  2. In the cases of <Environmental Domain Summary>, <Table Property Description>, and <Classification Data> in the role of link object, the <Property Value> instances could not be constrained to apply only to the desired ECC, and would make it impossible to have, respectively

Example

  1. A <Point Feature> classified (via a <Classification Data>) as ECC_BUILDING often requires a <Property Value> for EAC_BUILDING_FUNCTION to better classify the <Point Feature>.
