ISO/IEC 9973 specifies the procedures to be followed in preparing, maintaining, and publishing a register of identifiers and meanings, that, under the direction of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 24, are assigned to particular items.

Three (of the eight) SEDRIS Standards can be extended through registration, and their registration process conforms to, and is based on, ISO/IEC 9973. The corresponding registry for each of these standards are as follows.

• Registry for ISO/IEC 18025, Environmental Data Coding Specification (EDCS)

• Registry for ISO/IEC 18026, Spatial Reference Model (SRM)
