Magnetar

Magnetar Games Corporation is primarily a research-oriented developer. They have developed a range of innovative technologies aimed at enhancing the game and simulation development paradigm. These technologies are applicable to the wide range of industries, such as simulations, eLearning, games (especially distributed, online multiplayer), and anywhere else where a collaborative, platform-independent, distributed environment can be utilized.

Magnetar's goal is to create an interactive Internet gaming community that brings together games, players, and companies of all types. A key to this strategy is unprecedented support for the outstanding creative potential of the online gaming body. Gamers like to create, and Magnetar's goal is to provide authoring systems that allow even a non-programmer to become more involved in the playing experience. By providing professional game development tools and software frameworks that are compatible with easy to use, user-friendly tools, game artisans of all talents can participate at the level of their interest and ability.

Magnetar has proposed a standards initiative for the game industry, the XML Game Consortium (XGC). The goal of the XGC is to develop interoperability standards for games, and to promote their implementation. The XGC strategy is to develop game standards through leveraging standards in the modeling and simulation (M&S), real-time visualization and grid computing communities such as X3D, HLA, OGSI and SEDRIS.
