IST is an internationally recognized research institute that focuses
on advancing simulation technology and increasing our understanding of
simulation's role in training and education. As a research unit of the
University of Central Florida, IST provides a wide range of research and
information services for the simulation and training community.
IEC is the world organization that prepares and
publishes international standards for all electrical, electronic and related
technologies. The IEC’s mission is to promote, through its members, international
cooperation on all questions of electrotechnical standardization and related
matters, such as the assessment of conformity to standards, in the fields
of electricity, electronics and related technologies.
IHO is a consultative and technical organization
that was established to support the safety in navigation and the protection
of the marine environment. The object of the Organization is to bring about:
(1) the coordination of the activities of national hydrographic offices;
(2) the greatest possible uniformity in nautical charts and documents;
(3) the adoption of reliable and efficient methods of carrying out and
exploiting hydrographic surveys; and (4) the development of the
sciences in the field of hydrography and the techniques employed in descriptive
oceanography.
ISO is a worldwide federation of national standards
bodies from some 130 countries, one from each country. ISO is a non-governmental
organization with the mission to promote the development of standardization
and related activities in the world with a view to facilitating the international
exchange of goods and services, and to developing cooperation in the spheres
of intellectual, scientific, technological and economic activity. ISO's
work results in international agreements that are published as International
Standards.
JTC 1 is the ISO/IEC committee responsible for
standardization in the field of Information Technology. JTC 1 develops,
maintains, promotes and facilitates IT standards required by global markets
meeting business and user requirements Information Technology:
SC 24 is the sub-committee of JTC 1 responsible
for defining standards for Computer Graphics and Image Processing. The
area of work includes standardization of interfaces, in windowed and non-windowed
environments, for: computer graphics, image processing, and interaction
with and visual presentation of information.
WG 8 is the working group of SC 24 responsible
for defining standards for Enviromental Representation. The area of work
of WG 8 is: (1) to define standards for environmental data elements, including
presentation properties and their relationships, in the context of a data
representation model; (2) to define standards for data interchange between
environmental data providers and consumers; (3) to define standards for
a coding system for environmental data that supports identification, analysis,
and reuse; and (4) to define standards for spatial referencing that provide
unambiguous interchange between different coordinate systems.
OGC's mission is to:·(1) involve the
world's developers and users of geographic information resources - including
vendors, integrators, academia, government agencies, and standards organizations
- in collaborative development of interoperable geoprocessing technology
specifications, and work to ensure the delivery of certifiably interoperable
products; (2) synchronize geoprocessing technology with emerging
information technology standards based on open systems, distributed processing,
and componentware frameworks; (3) promote distributed geoprocessing
to a wide range of user communities; and (4) provide an industry
forum that promotes cooperative business development initiatives related
to distributed geoprocessing.
SISO is the organization dedicated to
the promotion of modeling and simulation (M&S) interoperability and
reuse for the benefit of diverse M&S communities, including developers,
procurers, and users, world-wide. SISO's mission is to provide an open
forum that promotes the interoperability and reuse of models and simulations
through the exchange of ideas, the examination of technologies, and the
development of standards.
The Web3D Consortium was formed to provide a
forum for the creation of open standards for Web3D specifications, and
to accelerate the worldwide demand for products based on these standards
through the sponsorship of market and user education programs. This community
has spearheaded the development of the VRML 1.0 and 2.0 specifications,
which provide the basis for the development of associated applications.
WMO coordinates global scientific activity to
allow increasingly prompt and accurate weather information and other services
for public, private and commercial use, including international airline
and shipping industries. The purposes of WMO are to facilitate international
cooperation in the establishment of networks of stations for making meteorological,
hydrological and other observations; and to promote the rapid exchange
of meteorological information, the standardization of meteorological observations
and the uniform publication of observations and statistics.
